Tiered
Task
|
Teaching a large multilevel class in Secondary School is demanding because of several reasons:
Tiered Task offers a different way to deal with the multilvel class; sometimes the brightest students are the ones who participate more often in the class while the less advanced students do not do it at the same level and frequency. Tiered task is an amazing option to involve everyone in the same task but, at a different level.
Tiered task takes advantage of the same lesson, text, listening, and, even writing activities in order to answer a task depending on the level of each student. In this case, students read a short tale; advanced students read the text answer the questions. Intermediate students read the text and answer the questions by choosing one of the three options. Beginner students read the text and look for the answer for each question from a scrambled list of answers.
This is a reading lesson and tiered exercises for third grade. Tiered task helps most of the students in completing tasks in the classroom by making three different answers sheet for the same reading.

Unit 1
Third grade
My old friend Priscila
I met her when we were
studying in Elementary school in Cabo San Lucas. She was the best friend of
my cousin Daniela. She moved to another city, Mazatlan, when she was 12 and
I didn't see her for five years. Last vacations I visited my aunt who was working
in the same city that she was living in. I was walking by the downtown when
we met each other. Two months ago we chatted on the Internet and told her about
my visit to Mazatlan. After we said hello, she told me that she went to Cabo
San Lucas, but she couldn't let me know.
-When did you go to my city?- I asked her.
-I went last April- She answered.
-Did you visit your relatives?- I continued.
-Well, my relatives used to live near your neighborhood but they moved two years
ago- She added.
-And did you go to see my cousin Daniela?
-No, I didn't. I went there because my father had to do something about his
work.
We talked for more than three hours and the day after we went to the zoo and to the movies. I met her friends and classmates. We went out for dinner and dancing. We went to a beautiful beach and spent all day at it. It was sad to say goodbye but, since there, we often chat. Truly, it was a very special time with her.
Robert.
