Tiered
Task
|
Teaching a large multilevel class in Secondary School is demanding because of several reasons:
Tiered Task offers a different way to deal with the multilvel class; sometimes the brightest students are the ones who participate more often in the class while the less advanced students do not do it at the same level and frequency. Tiered task is an amazing option to involve everyone in the same task but, at a different level.
Tiered task takes advantage of the same lesson, text, listening, and, even writing activities in order to answer a task depending on the level of each student. In this case, students read a short tale; advanced students read the text answer the questions. Intermediate students read the text and answer the questions by choosing one of the three options. Beginner students read the text and look for the answer for each question from a scrambled list of answers.
This is a reading lesson and tiered exercises for third grade. Tiered task helps most of the students in completing tasks in the classroom by making three different answers sheet for the same reading.

Unit 1
Third grade
The ghost in the garden.
It was in a cold evening
in October. Gaby was cooking dinner in the kitchen when her mother went shopping.
Her father wasn't at home and her sister was watching TV in the livingroom.
Suddenly, she saw something, like a shadow, through the window; it was moving
very fast towards the garden when she was fixing the table for dinner. Her sister
was wearing a white school uniform when she saw her sitting on the sofa. The
shadow was gray and it was very fast. Maybe it's my imagination she thought.
Her father got home when she was finishing dinner. She told him about the shadow
that she saw when she was in the kitchen and then he went to the garden and,
after a while, he came back.
-What were you doing when you saw it?- he asked.
-I was cooking dinner- She answered.
-What did you see?- he asked.
-I saw a shadow. The shadow was moving very fast.
-Maybe it was a ghost- he seriously said.
-A ghost?-She was surprised- In our garden?
Her father left the house
again and went to the garden.
-Come on in here- he yelled from the garden. -Here is the ghost- at the time
he grabbed Marcos, her little brother who was covering himself with a gray blanket.
-He was playing hide and seek when you saw the shadow, he was looking for a
spot to hide in- said her father.
Everybody was laughing when her mother arrived and they told her about the ghost in the garden.
